TestDirectly Eliminates the Paper Requisitions That Cause Accessioning Headaches

Los Angeles, CA, October 7, 2020 - The public demands it, and the country needs it. More COVID-19 testing capacity and faster turnaround times.

To achieve this, laboratories need more than a reliable supply chain. They need a solution that enables accessioning at faster rates and much larger test volumes than in the past, and a solution that swiftly handles the reporting of the test results.

“The manual order entry bottleneck is a major problem for labs once the volume of daily samples is over 500 a day, and hiring new staff members solely for data entry isn’t the answer,” said LigoLab CEO Suren Avunjian. “The only way to truly scale-up capacity in an efficient way is to replace the paper requisitions with an electronic workflow. One that starts with patient self-registration and continues to support the complete life-cycle of the case and the specimen.”

The TestDirectly Direct-to-Consumer Portal (D2C) is the latest addition to the fully integrated LigoLab LIS & RCM Operating Platform. The portal was developed and brought to the market in the spring of 2020, and it was designed to be a solution for any lab hoping to attain higher volumes and faster results delivery.

“Our portal is LIS agnostic and it can be quickly and seamlessly added to any system to eliminate paperwork, manual processes, and data entry errors that cause reporting delays,” said Avunjian. “It’s a very robust platform that’s handling over 100,000 accessions and reports a day. Additionally, it frees laboratories from any follow-up because results are automatically sent back to the patient, the provider, the organization, and public health agencies within minutes of the test results being released.”

TestDirectly is a web-based platform and easily accessible by mobile phone, tablet, or PC. It supports all collection workflows, including drive-through, walk-ups, and organizational testing, and has batch accessioning and batch reporting functionality.

Accessioning starts when the patient creates an account with an email address at TestDirectly.com. From there, he or she can find a nearby collection site, schedule an appointment, input all demographics including billing details that can be verified and/or charged in real-time, answer the required order entry questions, agree to terms, and place the order.

After the test is ordered, an electronic requisition with a unique barcode is created and the patient receives order confirmation through email and/or SMS text. The confirmation includes the same barcode from the requisition, and the patient uses it to check-in at the specimen collection site. At the time of collection, the TestDirectly platform can generate a unique specimen label, or if the site is using pre-printed barcodes on the specimens, the system can marry the order to the specimen without the need for printers on site. Once the collected specimen arrives at the laboratory, the barcode on the specimen is checked in with a simple scan, and then it is sent straight to processing without delay.

“The electronic workflow that started with the patient’s self-registration continues at the collection site and the laboratory, saving countless hours of manual data entry and removing a big bottleneck that causes delays in turnaround time and unnecessary errors,” continued Avunjian.

Upon verification, reports are automatically created and delivered from the LIS to the TestDirectly portal, and the patient is notified immediately when the results are ready to be viewed in the portal.

The portal also provides real-time test results, prevalence data, and track and trace tools, allowing the provider and public health agencies to take immediate action when a positive COVID-19 case is identified.

TestDirectly removes the barriers and links laboratories with patients, physicians, organizations, and governmental agencies for fast, safe, and easy COVID-19 collection, testing, and reporting.
